Essentials of Good Millinery
1.To produce a hat that will suit the individuality and the purpose of the wearer is the highest attainment in the art of millinery. Women expect a great deal from hats, and so they should, for the hat really makes the background, or frame, for the face.
2. Without doubt, a hat's finest artistic touch is its individuality or its adaptability to the wearer's personality. Too often women select and wear hats that do not in any way express their individual type.
3. One of the important rules of dress is to wear the right thing in the right place. No part of a woman's attire can be considered artistic if it is not useful. It must fulfil the purpose for which it is intended. To perform its function properly-that is, to meet the requirements of individuality-a woman's hat must therefore be appropriate.
4. Closely allied to appropriateness in millinery is becomingness. In fact, a hat may be appropriate for the use to which it is to be put, but if it is not becoming to the wearer it loses its charm and its distinction. Becomingness results from a combination of color, texture, and line.
5. In considering points that lead to individuality in millinery, you will do well to remember that in every person there is something that is attractive.
